The $2.50 Indian Gold Quarter Eagle was minted from 1908-1929. Sometimes referred to as an incuse Indian, the design elements are imprinted into the metal and is a lower relief than the main field of the coin.

Teddy Roosevelt felt that the previous design featuring the Liberty Head was boring and that the coinage needed to be refreshed.

Coin Highlights:

  • Contains .12094 oz of Gold.
  • Obverse: Displays a masculine Liberty wearing a full headdress encircled by 13 stars with the word "Liberty" above and the date below.
  • Reverse: Features a bald eagle. Surrounding the eagle is "United States of America", "E Pluribus Unum", "In God We Trust" and the denomination “2 1/2 Dollars.”
  • Designed by Bela Lyon Pratt and minted from 1908-1929.
  • U.S. Mint issue from the following mints: Philadelphia or Denver.

The beautiful sunken relief design of this coin makes it highly sought after by investors and collectors alike.

Like most Pre-1933 US Gold Coins, $2.50 Indian Quarter Eagle Gold Coins often carry a numismatic premium not always found in gold bullion coins.

Even in cleaned or damaged condition these coin can fetch a decent premium over melt value. When selling them back to a dealer, most will typically pay a percentage premium above the melt price. This makes them extremely popular for stacking as they are widely recognizable and verifiable.
