The Gold 20 Franc Rooster were coins first in 1899. Each 20 Franc Rooster Gold Coin is 21 mm in diameter, weighs 6.45 grams (gross weight) and, at 90% pure, contains 0.1867 troy ounces or 5.805 grams of pure gold.

The 20 Franc Gold Rooster coin was minted from 1899-1914. The total number of coins produced during those years over 117,000,000 coins. The denomination (known as the Franc Germinal) was in continual use through the 19th century and later.

French 20 Franc Gold Rooster Design

The obverse of the coin has a profile of Marianne, Goddess of Liberty and is symbolic of the French Republic. She is a symbol with origins in the 3rd French Republic and is a personification of liberty and reason. Marianne is a portrayal of the Goddess of Liberty. Inscribed around her are the words “République Française” or “French Republic”.

The reverse pictures a Le Coq Gaulois or Gallic Rooster, colloquially named Chantecler, with the words “Liberté Egalité Fraternitén” or “Liberty, Equality, Fraternity (brotherhood).”

The reverse also includes the year each coin was minted as well as the denomination 20 Fcs.
