APMEX Review: As always, APMEX delivers. They are usually not the cheapest when it comes to the most common stuff but they are reliable and have an amazing product selection. Lately I've been ordering 20 Franc gold coins from their eBay...

Saint Gaudens $20 Gold Coin (1907-1933) Double Eagle

Random Year Saint-Gaudens $20 Gold Coin (1907–1933) – Double Eagle Highlights

  • Lower premiums than many modern government-issued bullion coins
  • Historic U.S. legal tender — recognized and respected worldwide
  • Gold content: 0.9675 troy oz (nearly one troy ounce)
  • Potential numismatic upside — they're not making these anymore
  • Dates: Random (1907–1933)
  • Denomination: $20
  • Gold Content:
  • Purity: 90% gold, 10% copper alloy
  • Diameter: 34 mm
  • Mint: United States Mint

Unlike modern bullion coins, the Saint-Gaudens Double Eagles often trade near melt value, especially in circulated grades. That gives you the best of both worlds: low premiums typical of bulk bullion with the upside potential of a historical, limited-mintage asset. Whether lightly circulated or in higher grades, each coin is a tangible piece of America's pre-1933 gold legacy.

The Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle is an excellent choice if you're stacking gold for long-term wealth preservation but don't want to pay inflated premiums for a freshly minted coin.

The Saint-Gaudens $20 Double Eagle is an unbeatable option for anyone seeking cheaper gold with a historic connection. Whether you're a seasoned numismatist or a serious bullion investor, these coins offer more than just melt value.

Saint Gaudens Double Eagle Design

The obverse of the coin features a full-length image of Lady Liberty holding a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. She is shown walking forward against a backdrop of the sun's rays with the U.S. Capitol Building in the distance. The inscription "LIBERTY" appears above, with the date below.

The reverse features a majestic flying eagle against the sun's rays. The inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "TWENTY DOLLARS" appear on the reverse. From 1908 onward, the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" was added below the sun, following public outcry over its initial omission.

Each Gold Double Eagle coin contains .9675 troy ounces of gold and St Gauden's gold coins are highly sought after by both collectors and investors.

The St-Gaudens Double Eagle is both a piece of monetary history and also a work of art that captures the spirit and optimism of the early 20th-century United States.

Gold Double Eagles were minted from 1907-1933.

Investing in tangible assets like gold coins can offer diversification for investors. Precious metals often move counter to the stock market, providing a potential hedge during economic downturns.
