The Platinum Eagle was added to the American Eagle coin series by the US Mint in 1997.

At the time of it's introduction, American Eagle Platinum coin series consisted of both 1 oz and fractional ounce coins minted from .995 platinum.

The fractional 1/10 oz American Platinum Eagle coin is the smallest weight denomination in the series, weighing one tenth of one troy ounce.  

The 1/10 oz American Platinum Eagle Coin was first minted in 1997 by the United States Mint.
