The Platinum Eagle was added to the American Eagle coin series by the US Mint in 1997.
At the time of it's introduction, American Eagle Platinum coin series consisted of both 1 oz and fractional ounce coins minted from .995 platinum.
The fractional tenth ounce platinum Eagle coin is the smallest weight denomination in the series.
Platinum has become popular with precious metals investors given it's characteristics as both a commodity for industrial consumption, jewelry and as store of wealth.
The American Eagle 1/10 oz Platinum Coin is popular for prepping because of it's small size, unique patriotic design, high metal purity, and the guarantee from a sovereign nation.
The obverse design of the coin features a contemporary portrait of the face of the Statue of Liberty above the neck. Her right arm raised above her head.
The obverse of the coin shows the word "LIBERTY" inside the rim of the coin along the top. The year of mintage and the words "In God We Trust" are also incorporated into the front.
