2023 Kangaroo 1 oz Gold Coin

The Gold Kangaroo coins are the flagship investment bullion coin minted with a fresh design each year from the Perth Mint.

Each year, the new designs are eagerly anticipated by investors and collectors alike. The subject matter often focuses on the unique array of wildlife and natural beauty found amongst the grassy plains of the outback.

The mint was originally established in 1899 as a rustic outpost of the Royal Mint during the Western Australia Gold Rush. Today, Perth is one of the most respected mint's in the world, processing far more newly mined gold than most others.

While a new effigy is forthcoming, the current year coins continue to show the familiar effigy of the late Queen Elizabeth. This is likely to be the final year that coins from Perth will feature Her Majesty. The inscriptions have been slightly modified from previous years, with the year of the start of her reign shown alongside the year of her death, included in the circular ring that surrounds the effigy.

Other inscriptions on the obverse include "ELIZABETH II", "AUSTRALIA" and the legal tender designation of "$100".

The reverse for this year shows a scene in the grassy flatlands of the outback. Some Eucalyptus trees are scattered amongst the background. In the foreground, a large kangaroo is glancing over its shoulder. The kangaroo is a national symbol of Australia and is celebrated on various forms of currency and included as an element in the country's coat of arms.

Inscriptions on this side include: "Kangaroo", the "P" mint mark, the year-date, "1 oz" weight and ".9999" purity.

The mint operates one of the most state-of-the-art facilities, uniquely engineering advanced anti-counterfeiting features into the design to provide investors with additional assurance. Such as the micro-laser engraving within the letter "A" that is visible with a magnifying glass.

Coin Highlights:

  • Contains with one troy ounce of .9999 fine gold
  • Obverse: Portrait of the queen.
  • Reverse: Red kangaroo peering back towards his rear.
  • Australia legal tender $100
  • Backed by the Perth Mint

The kangaroo, locally refered to as roos, are marsupials with large, powerful hind legs above large feet that allow the animal to hop at high rates of speeds across long distances. Its long muscular tail helps provide balance and strength in the harsh, dry conditions of the outback.

The Perth Mint issues coins of the highest quality that are minted from 99.99% pure gold. Australian gold coins offer an opportunity for investors to shave significant savings on dealer premiums when compared against similar 24k gold investment-grade bullion coins.
