2020 1 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf

2020 Canadian Maple Leaf 1 oz Gold Coins

The Canadian Maple Leaf Gold Coins were introduced in 1979 by the Royal Canadian Mint. In the beginning they only produced the coins in 1 oz weight from .999 pure gold.

The first changes and additions came to the series in November 1982. The mint introduced the fractional 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz gold coins and increased the purity level to .9999 pure gold.

The mint would go on to add more weight variations between 1986 and 2014.

The Canadian Gold Maple Leaf coins include some of the most advanced anti-counterfeighting security features of any bullion coins sold today. The 2020 Gold Maple Leaf Coins are designed with micro-engraved radial lines in the background field on both the obverse and reverse that were introduced in 2015.

Additionally, the maple leaf privy mark on the reverse also includes a microengraving containing the numerals of the year the coin was minted. The microengraved date inside the privy is only visible under magnification.

On the reverse of 2020 1/2 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coins is a depiction of the sugar maple leaf that was designed by Walter Ott in 1979. The sugar maple leaf is a national symbol for Canadians. Historically, it use dates back to the colonial era.

The obverse of 2020 Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coin features the right-facing portrait of a 79-year-old Queen Elizabeth II. Designed in 2003 by Jody Clark, this image appears on all bullion and circulation coinage from the Royal Canadian Mint. It is the first during her reign to show the Queen without a crown on her head.
