The Indian Head Nickel was first minted in 1913 and was designed by American sculptor James Earle Fraser. Fraser was commissioned by the US Mint as part of an effect by Teddy Roosevelt to beautify American coinage. This 1/4 oz silver round is emblazed with a reproduction of this design which pays to the original coin.

The obverse of the round features the composite portrait of three different Native American chiefs, while the reverse shows the American bison "Black Diamond", that was a notable animal of the era on display at the Central Park Zoo.

1/4 oz Silver Round - Buffalo Design:

  • Contains one-quarter troy ounce of .999 fine silver.
  • Obverse: Indian Head Design.
  • Reverse: Bison Rendition.
  • Minted by various private mints.

Silver is considered a hedge against inflation and financial uncertainty. Some suggest we are currently living through a period of fiat currency devaluation as the world returns to a commodities backed economic currency for use in international trade.

A return to the gold standard risks further inflation and rapid currency devaluation while precious metals like silver can retain their value and be exchanged for currency or for bartering goods and services. Having silver in smaller, fractional amounts like these generic 1/4 oz silver rounds makes it easier to use for small-scale exchanges.

Having a stack of fractional silver rounds is a good idea as part of your financial plan for prepping. These 1/4 oz rounds retain the underlying intrinsic value based on current silver prices.
