Franklin half dollars were minted by the US Mint from 1948 to 1963 and are composed of 90% silver and 10% copper, similar to other junk silver coins of this era.
Each Franklin half dollar has a total silver content of approximately 0.3617 troy ounces per coin, providing the intrinsic value to the coins. The Franklin half dollar features an iconic portrait of Benjamin Franklin on the obverse, while the reverse depicts the Liberty Bell, a symbol of American independence.
The design was created by John R. Sinnock, the Chief Engraver of the United States Mint at the time. Each lot of Franklin half dollars with contain two coins, each is 50 cents legal tender for a total face value of $1.
