Since 1986, the American Eagle Gold coin has been minted annually. While this coin is legal tender in the U.S. with a nominal face value of $50 USD, its value is much greater because it is based on the market spot gold price.

The reverse of the 2025 American Eagle Gold coin was designed by Jennie Norris and Renata Gordon as part of the U.S. Mint Artist Infusion Program (AIP). It portrays the head of a male eagle as watchful, vigilant, and observant. It's available in 1/10, 1/4, 1/2, and this 1-ounce denomination. The reverse also includes inscriptions that include the country, mottos, and legal tender face value of $50.
Since pure gold is very soft, 22k coins are more resistant to scratching and marring. The gold is mixed into an alloy, blended with 3% silver and 5.33 copper, to give the coin strength and durability. Similar alloys have been used for the minting of circulating gold coins for hundreds of years.
