The Dutch guilder was the currency of the Netherlands until the transition to the Euro currency in 2002.
The 10 Gulden Gold Coin by the Netherlands from 1875 until 1933 when many countries around the world were facing hardship brought on by the Great Depression.
The Royal Dutch Mint issued two types of gold coins during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The first series featured a portrait of King William III. A long reigning monarch who carried out a number of successful reforms that led to a period of peace and prosperity throughout the country. The reforms significantly improved the standard of living for average Dutch families.
From 1890 until 1933, the 10 guilder gold coin featured a portrait of Queen Wilhelmina.
Many of these coins were used by merchants in international trade and commerce. These circulated bullion coins each contain .1947 troy ounces of .900 fine gold.
