These mirror-like issues contain 1/10 oz of shiny gold and display the famous St-Gaudens design on the obverse. The design was first created by scultor Augustus Saint-Gaudens as part of a public design competition for the $20 Double Eagle gold coin. The design was minted from 1907 until the ownership of gold was outlawed in 1933. Today, the original St-Gaudens that inspired the design for this issue continue to remain a popular choice for investors.
The back of the coins feature the Type-2 design on the reverse that has been the standard since being released part of the way through 2021.
The proof gold eagle matches the metal composition of the bullion coin, which is made up of alloy that is 90% gold, 3% silver and 7% copper. While mixed with other elements, each coin is minted with one tenth troy ounce of 99.9% pure gold.
