How we compare prices (Methodology)
  • Data sources: We fetch live pricing from participating dealer product pages and/or APIs.
  • Refresh cadence: Prices and spot updates sync on a schedule (typically every hour). Each page shows a timestamp when the prices were last refreshed.
  • Payment normalization: Rankings default to bank/ACH pricing. Where dealers publish multiple payment prices, you should verify the price on the dealer website based on the selected payment method.
  • All-in price: Due to differences in sales tax, shipping costs and payment method adjustment, we show item price and note what’s included.
  • Premium over spot: Premium = The amount charged by the dealer, minus the current spot per unit for this specific product.
  • Stock handling: Typically, we only show prices if the dealer has the item available for sale on their website. Pre-Orders are typically labeled. Sometimes, dealers will list items as in-stock and available for sale when they are on backorder; out-of-stock offers are de-prioritized or hidden.
  • Independence & disclosure: Dealers cannot pay to change rankings. Some outbound links are affiliate/sponsored; they’re marked and use rel="sponsored". This does not affect how prices are displayed.
  • Corrections: See something off? Contact us and we will do our best to fix the issue quickly.

Expert Notes

To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the coin's first minting, the US Mint issued a gold Mercury Dime coin in 2016.

The Mercury design was created by Adolph Weinman and minted on circulating ten cent coins from 1916 until 1945. This tenth oz gold coin is a modern reproduction of the famous Winged Liberty Head depiction.

In the effigy, the face of liberty is shown pointing to the left, the details in her Phrygian cap are outstanding and clear. The front is stamped with the word "LIBERTY" around the top and includes other inscriptions for the phrase "IN GOD WE TRUST", the year-date of minting. A "W" mint mark is also captured in the design, indicating that the coin was minted at the West Point Mint.

The reverse of the coin displays a fasces, a symbol of unity and strength along with an olive branch, which is significant of peace.

Each coin is encapsulated in a protective capsule and comes packaged in a custom, black-matte hardwood presentation case that is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.

2016 1/10 oz Gold Mercury Dime Fundamentals:

  • Minted with one-tenth troy ounce of .9999 fine gold.
  • Produced by the US Mint.
  • Includes original collectors box (OGP) with certificate of authenticity.
  • Obverse: Weinman's Lady Liberty ten-cent coin design.
  • Reverse: fasces, along with other inscriptions.
  • Eligible for Precious Metals IRA.
  • US Mint Product Code: 16XB.

The US Mint is responsible for the production and minting of coinage for the United States, which includes commemorative and special issues such as this.

To celebrate the centennial anniversary of these coins, the US Mint chose to mark the occasion with three numismatic issues based on historical designs. This 1/10 oz Gold Mercury Dime is the first release in the commemorative series. Other issues include a 1/4 oz Gold Standing Liberty Quarter, and a 1/2 oz Gold Walking Liberty Half Dollar.

Only 125,000 of these 1/10 oz 99.99% pure gold coins were struck in 2016, making them a suitable addition to both numismatic collections and investment portfolios. During the first tranche, the coins were sold exclusively through the US Mint website, with a per customer limit of ten gold coins.

The United States Mint was establish by Congress in 1792. The Mint produced the first coins for circulation in 1793. In 1873, the Mint became part of the Department of the Treasury.

Under the leadership of the Treasury Secretary, the mint is responsible for producing coinage in support of the nation's trade and commerce and also releases numismatic products, including proof, uncirculated, and commemorative coins, Congressional Gold Medals and silver and gold bullion coins.
