$5 Liberty Half Eagle Gold Coin (AU) - Random Year

A Liberty $5 half eagle gold coin is a type of gold coin that was minted by the United States from 1839 to 1908. It features Lady Liberty on the obverse (front) and an eagle on the reverse (back).

The coin is called a "half eagle" because it has a face value of five dollars, which is half the value of the ten-dollar gold eagle coin. These coins were designed by Christian Gobrecht and are part of the American pre-1933 gold coinage.

A gold coin in AU condition, or Almost Uncirculated condition, is a coin that has only slight wear visible on the highest points of the design. AU coins have most of their original mint luster and are considered to be in excellent condition. They are highly sought after by collectors due to their high quality and the fact that they have not been circulated much.

Almost Uncirculated $5 Liberty Half Eagle Goin Coin Highlights:

  • Minted with 0.2419 troy ounces of gold.
  • Produced from 1839 to 1908.
  • Obverse: Coronet Head Lady Liberty with 13 stars.
  • Reverse: Eagle design.

An AU $5 Liberty half eagle gold coin features Lady Liberty on the obverse, facing left and wearing a coronet inscribed with the word "LIBERTY".

On the reverse, there shows a heraldic eagle with a shield on its breast, holding arrows and an olive branch in its talons. These coins were issued between 1839 and 1908, and the mintmark would indicate where it was produced (no mintmark for Philadelphia, "CC" for Carson City, "S" for San Francisco, "D" for Denver, or "O" for New Orleans). In AU condition, the coin's features are well-defined, with only slight wear on the highest points, with much of its original mint luster remaining.
