Opened in 1965, the Royal Australian Mint is Canberra around the time of decimalization in Australia when the country was shedding its colonial roots. In addition to circulating coinage, the mint also produces a range of bullion products that are popular with bullion coin collectors including gold and silver precious metal coins.
The most popular, by far, is the Australian Lunar Series Coins. These coins feature the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac and each annual release corresponds to the animal for that year in the lunar calendar.
