The Pobjoy Mint was established in 1965 by Derek Pobjoy. It has grown to become one of the largest private minting companies in Europe. Although it's a private entity and doesn't produce the official coinage of the UK,, the Pobjoy Mint has the distinction of minting legal tender coins for a number of other countries around the world.

Pobjoy Mint has gained international recognition for the quality of their work, particularly their commemorative coins, medals, tokens, and bullion products. The mint has produced a wide range of notable coins such as the Isle of Man's annual Cat Coins and the British Virgin Islands' annual Pegasus coins, both highly popular with collectors and investors.
