The obverse of the Gold Panda showcases the Temple of Heaven, located in Beijing, China.
It is legend that all the great Emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties would visit the Hall of Prayer at the Temple of Heaven each year to pray for a good harvest.
The front also includes inscriptions in Chinese characters for "People's Republic of China" (中华人民共和国) plus the year of minting.
The reverse design of the Gold Panda changes annually.
For 2022, the panda gold coin design highlights two panda cubs playing gleefully in the snow.
A privy mark, indicating the 40th anniversary of the Gold Chinese Panda coin is shown to the left of the bears sliding down a snowy hill.
Inscribed around the top edge of the reverse is the weight, 30 grams and .999 fine gold purity.
In between the bears on right of the main design, the denomination of 500 yuan (500元) is shown.
