10 Gram Gold Bars Compared: Argor Kinebar vs. Valcambi vs. Perth Mint and More

10 Gram Gold Bars Compared: Argor Kinebar vs. Valcambi vs. Perth Mint and More

A 10 gram gold bar holds 0.3215 troy ounces of gold. That puts it in a price range between the smallest fractional bars and the standard 1 oz bar, making it a practical mid-range option for investors building a position in physical gold without committing to a full ounce at once.

We’ve added five 10 gram gold bars to our comparison pages. Each comes from a different refiner with its own security features, brand recognition, and premium structure. Here’s what separates them and which one makes the most sense for different buyers.

The Five Bars at a Glance

All five bars contain 10 grams (0.3215 troy oz) of .9999 fine gold and ship in sealed assay packaging. The differences come down to brand, security technology, and the premium each one commands over spot price.

Argor-Heraeus 10 Gram Gold Kinebar

Argor-Heraeus 10 gram gold kinebar

Argor-Heraeus is one of the world’s largest gold refiners, operating from Mendrisio, Switzerland, with LBMA Good Delivery accreditation. What sets their Kinebar apart from every other bar on this list is the holographic Kinegram on the reverse.

Developed in 1993 in partnership with UBS, the Kinegram is a full-surface diffractive pattern created through micro-engravings less than 0.0015mm deep. It produces a shifting rainbow effect that is virtually impossible to replicate with current counterfeiting technology. Each bar also carries a unique serial number and arrives in a tamper-evident assay card.

Best for: Buyers who prioritize anti-counterfeit protection and plan to resell on the secondary market, where the Kinegram provides instant visual authentication without special equipment.

Valcambi 10 Gram Gold Bar

Valcambi Suisse 10 g gold bar in sealed assay package

Valcambi Suisse, based in Balerna, Switzerland, is one of the most widely recognized names in gold refining. Their 10 gram bar features the standard Valcambi hallmarks: company name, weight, .9999 purity stamp, and a unique serial number, all sealed in a CertiPAMP assay card.

Valcambi bars don’t carry a hologram or proprietary security device. Authentication relies on the serial number, the assay card, and Valcambi’s reputation. That simpler approach often means slightly lower premiums than the Kinebar.

Best for: Investors who want a globally recognized brand at a competitive premium, and who plan to store rather than frequently trade their holdings.

Perth Mint 10 Gram Gold Bar

Perth Mint 10g gold bar in assay card

The Perth Mint is Australia’s official precious metals refiner and has operated since 1899. Their 10 gram bar features the Perth Mint’s kangaroo logo and arrives in a tamper-evident assay card with security features including a holographic element.

Perth Mint products carry implicit government backing (the Mint is owned by the Government of Western Australia), which gives them a level of institutional credibility that private refiners can’t match. That backing also makes Perth Mint bars widely accepted by dealers worldwide.

Best for: Buyers who value government-backed provenance and want a bar with strong international liquidity, particularly across Asian and Australian markets.

Sunshine Mint 10 Gram Gold Bar

Sunshine Mint 10g bar

Sunshine Minting, based in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, is one of the largest private mints in the United States. Their 10 gram bar includes the proprietary MintMark SI security feature: a micro-engraved pattern invisible to the naked eye that reveals the word “VALID” and a sunburst image when viewed through a special decoder lens (sold separately).

Sunshine Mint bars tend to carry lower premiums than Swiss and Australian competitors because Sunshine operates primarily in the U.S. wholesale market. The tradeoff is less name recognition outside North America.

Best for: U.S.-based buyers looking for the lowest premium on a branded 10 gram bar from a domestic producer. The MintMark SI feature adds an authentication layer without adding the cost of a hologram.

10 Gram Gold Bar (Random Manufacturer)

Random-manufacturer bars are sourced from dealers’ available inventory. You’ll receive a 10 gram .9999 fine gold bar from an LBMA-accredited or equivalent refiner, but the specific brand varies by order. These bars carry the lowest premiums of any option on this list because dealers are clearing mixed inventory rather than stocking a specific SKU.

Best for: Buyers focused purely on gold content per dollar spent, who don’t care about brand name and won’t pay extra for holographic security or specific refiner provenance.

How to Choose

The right 10 gram bar depends on what you’re optimizing for.

Lowest premium: The random-manufacturer bar wins on cost. When you’re buying gold purely for its metal content, brand doesn’t affect the melt value. Compare current premiums on our 10 gram gold bars collection page to see which option is cheapest today.

Anti-counterfeit security: The Argor-Heraeus Kinebar’s holographic Kinegram is the strongest counterfeit deterrent on this list, followed by Perth Mint’s holographic assay features and Sunshine Mint’s MintMark SI decoder system. Valcambi relies on serial numbers and its reputation.

Resale liquidity: Valcambi, Perth Mint, and Argor-Heraeus are all LBMA-accredited and globally recognized. Any of these three will resell easily through dealers or private sale anywhere in the world. Sunshine Mint bars have strong liquidity in the U.S. but less international recognition.

Government backing: Only the Perth Mint bar carries government provenance. If institutional credibility matters for your use case (e.g., an IRA custodian’s approved product list), the Perth Mint bar may have an edge.

Why 10 Grams?

The 10 gram weight sits at a practical middle ground in the gold bar market. At roughly one-third of a troy ounce, it offers meaningfully more gold than a 1 gram or 5 gram bar while staying at a price point that allows dollar-cost averaging across multiple purchases.

Premiums per gram on 10 gram bars are lower than on smaller fractional bars. Manufacturing and assay packaging costs are spread across more gold content. For a breakdown of how premiums scale with bar size, see our fractional gold bars guide.

10 gram bars also fit neatly into a diversification strategy. Rather than putting an entire purchase into a single 1 oz bar, splitting the same investment across two or three 10 gram bars from different refiners gives you flexibility when it’s time to sell. You can liquidate a portion of your holdings without parting with a full ounce.
