The United States Mint has officially revealed the next releases in its groundbreaking Comic Art Coin and Medal Program — celebrating two of DC’s most iconic heroes, Batman™ and Wonder Woman™. The announcement came August 19, 2025, during the American Numismatic Association (ANA) World’s Fair of Money in Oklahoma City, drawing excitement from both coin collectors and comic fans alike.
A Historic Series Blending Numismatics and Pop Culture

The Comic Art Coin and Medal Program is a first-of-its-kind initiative for the U.S. Mint, merging the artistry of comic book storytelling with the craftsmanship of American coinage. Earlier this year, the program debuted with Superman™, and now Batman and Wonder Woman join the lineup.
The Mint also confirmed that the series will continue, with Green Lantern, Robin, and Supergirl slated for 2026, followed by The Flash, Batgirl, and Aquaman in 2027.
Kristie McNally, Acting Director of the Mint, described the program as “more than a celebration of comic book heroes—it’s a tribute to the enduring power of storytelling. By honoring these legendary characters on coins and medals, we’re connecting generations through art, history, and imagination.”
The Batman™ Coin and Medal Designs

US Mint Comic Art Coin and Medal Program
The Comic Art Coin and Silver Medal Program is a three-year initiative by the United States Mint that bridges the worlds of American pop culture and numismatics. Announced in 2025, the program will feature nine separate releases, each highlighting a legendary DC Super Hero.
Artistic Leadership
All obverse designs in the series are being created and sculpted by U.S. Mint Chief Engraver Joseph F. Menna, one of the Mint’s most accomplished artists. His deep experience in both classical coin design and modern artistry brings a sense of gravitas and authenticity to the program.
- Batman Obverse: Menna illustrates Batman taking flight from a Gotham City skyscraper ledge, positioned beside a stone-carved eagle monument, a nod to the Dark Knight’s enduring symbolism of strength and vigilance.
- Batman Reverse: Designed by Menna and sculpted by Mint Medallic Artist John P. McGraw, the scene shows Batman standing atop a Gotham rooftop, cape flowing, as the Bat-Signal blazes across the night sky.
- Wonder Woman Obverse: Menna depicts Wonder Woman mid-stride with shield and Lasso of Truth, superimposed over the American flag, a subtle tribute to her origins as a WWII-era icon and her role as a timeless defender.
- Wonder Woman Reverse: While designed by Menna, this reverse was sculpted by Mint Medallic Artist Phebe Hemphill. The design captures Wonder Woman’s global presence with doves soaring above Earth, symbolizing peace and equality.
Collectibility and Investment Potential
For coin collectors, the Comic Art series is a numismatic crossover event unlike anything the Mint has done before. While these pieces are not bullion issues intended for stackers, they represent a unique niche of modern U.S. Mint products:
- Limited availability: Based on previous releases in the series, mintages are expected to be capped at 10,000 for the 1/2 oz gold coin, 25,000 for the 2.5 oz silver medal, and unlimited for the 1 oz medal.
- Crossover appeal: Interest spans across numismatics, comic art collectors, and pop culture memorabilia, attracting a wider pool of buyers.
- Gold and silver content: The 24k gold coins and .999 fine silver medals provide intrinsic value, while the clad versions make the series more affordable for casual collectors.
Like the Mint’s earlier programs (such as the Marvel/Perth Mint collaborations), secondary market demand for pop culture-themed coins often rises quickly, especially for first-year releases and core characters.
How to Buy Comic Art Coins
The U.S. Mint will open pre-orders later in 2025 through its official website. Collectors can:
- Set a “Remind Me” alert on the Mint’s product pages links above to be notified at launch.
- Subscribe to the Comic Art Coin and Medal Program, ensuring automatic delivery of each release with free shipping.
As with most limited Mint programs, demand is expected to outpace supply, particularly for the gold coins. Secondary market premiums are likely once initial allocations sell out.
The Bigger Picture
The Comic Art Coin and Medal Program reaches into popular culture in a way that merges art, storytelling, and national identity. Batman and Wonder Woman, characters symbolizing justice, courage, and equality, are fitting subjects for a program meant to resonate across generations.
The Batman and Wonder Woman Comic Art Coins embody the Mint’s commitment to innovation, bridging the gap between cultural icons and America’s numismatic heritage. Whether you’re a lifelong stacker, a new collector, or a DC Comics fan, this series is poised to be one of the most talked-about Mint programs in years.
