2024 Austria Philharmonic 1 oz Gold Coin

The Austria Philharmonic 1 oz Gold Coin merges the world of music and gold into a single piece of art. Its rich design, which pays homage to Austria's deep musical heritage, combined with its purity, recognition and low dealer premiums, has cemented its position as a favored choice among both investors and collectors.

The Austrian Philharmonic Gold Coin was first introduced in 1989 by the Austrian Mint in Vienna, one of the world's oldest mints. The coin was created as a tribute to the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, one of the world's elite orchestral ensembles and captures the cultural pride of Austria.

The obverse of the coin showcases the great organ found in the Golden Hall of Vienna's Musikverein, the concert hall where the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra performs. Above the organ, the words "REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH" (Republic of Austria) can be found. Below the organ, you'll find the weight, fineness, year of issue, and denomination of the coin.

The reverse features an assortment of musical instruments representing the orchestra. This includes a Vienna horn, a bassoon, a harp, and four violins centered around a cello. The words "WIENER PHILHARMONIKER" (Vienna Philharmonic) are inscribed above the instruments.

2024 Austrian Philharmonic 1 oz Gold Coin Details:

  • The coin is minted with one troy ounce of .9999 fine gold (24 karats).
  • Face value of 100 euros
  • The 1-ounce coin has a diameter of 37 mm and a thickness of 2 mm.
  • The edge of the coin is smooth.

Its design, which remains consistent year after year, is easily recognizable and often associated with the prestige and tradition of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.

For several years since its introduction, the Philharmonic was the best-selling gold coin in Europe and has frequently been among the top sellers globally. The coin's design has also been adapted for silver and platinum versions due to its popularity.

The Austrian Mint

The Austrian Mint ("Münze Österreich" in German), located in Vienna, has a rich history that spans over eight centuries and is responsible for the minting of all of the country's legal tender coins.

Its origins trace back to 1194 when Richard the Lionheart paid 15 tons of silver to Duke Leopold V of Austria as a ransom. This vast quantity of silver is said to have given birth to the mint, as it provided ample raw material for coin production for many years to come.

In the 14th century, the Mint moved from Vienna Neustadt to its current location in Heumarkt, Vienna, in 1835, signifying its evolving role in coin production and minting technology.

Today, the Austrian Mint is equipped with state-of-the-art coin production technology, ensuring the precision and quality of its products. It also employs a team of artists, engravers, and technicians who work together to design and produce coins that are both beautiful and technically impeccable.

The most internationally recognized coin from the Austrian Mint is the Vienna Philharmonic bullion coin, available in gold, silver, and platinum. It's one of the world's most widely recognized and best-selling bullion coins.
