The premium covers the cost of manufacturing and distribution of the coins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s been <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/profitsplusid\/status\/1816895469588791711?s=46&amp;t=nJtKEi7oAr4Z7DNHJ3Umfg\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a> that the US Mint recently notified distributors of the increase in the premium, from $2.95 to $3.05 per coin over the prevailing spot price, or roughly 3.8%. Retail investors should expect the rise in premiums to trickle down quickly from the wholesale level to bullion dealers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">US Mint just raised prices on Silver American Eagles to distributors. Now at $3.05 per coin over spot.<\/p>\u2014 bob coleman (@profitsplusid) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/profitsplusid\/status\/1816895469588791711?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 26, 2024<\/a><\/blockquote> <script async=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Breakdown of American Silver Eagle Premiums<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>With the silver price today at $27.93 per ounce, the Mint added an overall wholesale premium of 9.15%, making the <em>wholesale cost<\/em> to Authorized Purchasers $30.98 per coin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The lowest dealer price is $32.58 per coin, a 16.65% premium over the today&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/findbullionprices.com\/spot-prices\/silver-price\">silver spot price<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The retail premium is $1.60 over the spot or roughly 6% over the wholesale cost. This markup is shared between the wholesaler and retail bullion dealers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We track <a href=\"https:\/\/findbullionprices.com\/p\/American-Silver-Eagle-Random-Year\/\">Silver Eagle price<\/a> from more than a dozen dealers. The highest currently has a premium of <strong>$8.70 per ounce<\/strong> over the spot, a 31% premium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Two of the largest APs serving the retail precious metals market are <a class=\"keychainify-checked\" href=\"https:\/\/findbullionprices.com\/dealers\/apmex\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">APMEX<\/a> and A-Mark. Each will have its markup for downstream distributors and retailers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Manufacturing Process<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The U.S. Mint acquires raw silver that meets the purity and sourcing standards prescribed by law. The purity standard for the 1 oz American Eagle Silver Coin is .999, or 99.9% pure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The U.S. Mint does not own the refineries that process the ore. Instead, it works with approved suppliers and refineries that meet specific standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These suppliers, including the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.spglobal.com\/marketintelligence\/en\/news-insights\/latest-news-headlines\/a-mark-precious-metals-acquires-minority-interest-in-sunshine-minting-61671832\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sunshine Mint<\/a>, provide the Mint with silver blanks.
