No transaction anywhere near that size ever took place and my bank never did anything to intentionally hide the identity of any of its customers from the mint.<\/p>&mdash; Peter Schiff (@PeterSchiff) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PeterSchiff\/status\/1632694497917255682?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 6, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>In July last year, Euro Pacific was shut down by authorities in Puerto Rico for having inadequate capital levels and compliance controls. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The shutdown<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stewartslaw.com\/news\/what-happened-at-euro-pacific-bank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">followed an investigation by HRMC<\/a>, the Revenue and Customs department for the UK government. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following the investigation, authorities in the <a href=\"https:\/\/haysmacintyre.com\/insights\/hmrc-nudge-letters-targeting-taxpayers-with-euro-pacific-bank-accounts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">UK sent &#8220;nudge&#8221; letters to Euro Pacific Bank&#8217;s customers suspected of wrong doing<\/a> asking them to come forward. Some reports suggest that threats of &#8220;predawn raids&#8221; by armed police were included in letters <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Up until recently there had been no arrests linked to the investigation. In February, reports began emerging online that police in the UK raided several homes and businesses and arrested <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law360.com\/articles\/1578100\/two-men-arrested-in-uk-after-puerto-rican-bank-collapse\">two men<\/a> in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mishcon.com\/news\/arrests-made-following-hmrc-investigation-into-euro-pacific-bank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Liverpool area tied to the investigation<\/a>. The names of those arrested have not yet been made public. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In another recent news report, a financial crime specialist from Australia suggest that a former Hell&#8217;s Angel member who paid cash for a <a href=\"https:\/\/findbullionprices.com\/p\/1-Kilo-Gold-Bar-999-Fine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">1 kg gold bar<\/a> should have been identified as a &#8220;high risk.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even though the buyer has previous criminal convictions for drug trafficking and other crimes, at no time has he been under scrutiny for money laundering or acquiring the cash from illegal activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The biggest complaint from the expert quoted in the news is that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2023-03-06\/perth-mint-sells-gold-former-hells-angels-bikie-without-checks\/102048620\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&#8220;Mr Brajkovich says the Perth Mint only asked him for his driver&#8217;s licence.&#8221;<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to a video posted to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/SilverDegenClub\/comments\/11kw7m0\/really_interesting_video_from_bullion_now\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">YouTube by Bullion Now<\/a>, a valid driver&#8217;s license is the only requirement for a cash purchase is valid identification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-reddit wp-block-embed-reddit\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"reddit-embed-bq\" style=\"height:500px\" ><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/SilverDegenClub\/comments\/11kw7m0\/really_interesting_video_from_bullion_now\/\">REALLY INTERESTING VIDEO FROM BULLION NOW, MELBOURNE, DISCUSSING THE ISSUES AT PERTH MINT THAT HAVE HIT THE HEADLINES YESTERDAY &amp; TODAY.<\/a><br> by<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/user\/BumpettyBump\/\">u\/BumpettyBump<\/a> in<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/SilverDegenClub\/\">SilverDegenClub<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/embed.reddit.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"UTF-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">One conspiracy theory that is currently floating around social media concerns that politicians are intending to tarnish the reputation of the Perth Mint as part of a which hunt investigation to expose customer privacy under the guise of fraud investigations. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Perth Mint &#8220;Standard Delivery&#8221; Bars Fail Shanghai Gold Exchange Specification<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Shanghai Gold Exchange initially uncovered purity discrepancies in 2021. The SGE alleged that two bars contained higher amounts of silver than their specifications allow which triggered an internal investigation by the Mint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/goldbarsworldwide.com\/PDF\/BG_11_Shanghai_Good_Delivery.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SGE specification<\/a>, Good Delivery bars labeled as 99.99% pure gold must adhere to strict standards regarding the chemical composition of the remaining 0.01%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A bar designated as Grade I must have no more than 0.005% Silver (Au) and 0.002% Copper (Cu) with even more minute traces of iron, lead, bismuth and antimony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Assay tests performed during the investigation found one of the bars contained higher trace amounts of silver than is acceptable for the Exchange.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The reports of the investigation state that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2023-03-06\/perth-mint-gold-doping-china-cover-up-four-corners\/102048622\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">purity of the gold bar was still 99.99%<\/a>, although the silver content was slightly higher than the specification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Considering that the gold purity was tested as .9999 pure, at issue is the chemical composition of the 0.01%.  If the silver content was higher than 0.005%, then it should follow the logic there were smaller amounts of copper and other trace elements. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Perth Mint is the largest refiner of newly minted gold in the world. While Good Delivery bars are first sent to commodities exchanges, the 1 kg gold bars are also a frequent purchase for high-net worth investors.
